In Loving Memory of Patricia Joan Aleck

January 10, 1937 – May 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the peaceful passing of Patricia Joan Aleck on the evening of May 14, 2026, in San Francisco, California. She was 89 years old and a former Modern Greek Studies Foundation President.

A Life Dedicated to Education

Born on January 10, 1937, in Oakland, California, Patricia was the beloved daughter of Greek immigrants Jenny and John Pappas. The family later relocated to San Francisco, the city Pat would call home for the rest of her life.

After graduating from Lowell High School, she attended San Francisco State University, earning a degree in English Literature alongside her teaching credential. Pat dedicated her professional life to shaping minds across a variety of educational roles. Throughout her career, she served as a classroom teacher for multiple grade levels, a Program Resource Teacher, a Computer Lab and Reading Resource instructor, and ultimately, an Assistant Administrator until her retirement.

Guided by her deep faith, Pat was a cornerstone of the local and national Greek community. Her extensive leadership roles included:

  • Past President of the Modern Greek Studies Foundation
  • Past President of the Hellenic American Professional Society.

  • Parish Council President for many years, earning the distinction of being named the council’s sole lifetime member.

  • President of the Philoptochos Ladies Society at the Annunciation Cathedral in San Francisco for six years.

  • National Board Member (eight years) and Vice President of the Metropolis on the national level.

Pat lived in San Francisco with her cherished younger sister, Deedy. Together, the sisters generously poured their time and talents into the Annunciation Cathedral. Known for her radiant smile and welcoming spirit, Pat was a tireless philanthropist. One of her greatest passions was the efforts to rebuild the Annunciation Cathedral, and she remained ever ready to answer the call to serve the Lord.

Family and Legacy

To say Patricia will be deeply missed is a profound understatement; her absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted sister, Deedy. She also leaves behind her first cousins John Karides (Marjorie) and Roger Kores (Susan), along with their daughters and grandchildren.
